Today,\u00a0<a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">Facebook outlined<\/a> all its efforts to prevent malicious actors from meddling in the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions did not eliminate misinformation entirely in this election \u2013 but they did make it harder to spread, and less likely to appear in people\u2019s News Feeds,\u201d wrote\u00a0Richard Allan, Facebook\u2019s VP of Public Policy for EMEA.<\/p>\n<p>That includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deleting tens of thousands of suspicious accounts<\/li>\n<li>Fighting fake news in video and text clickbait<\/li>\n<li>Showing alternative perspectives on news stories via Related Articles<\/li>\n<li>Offering space where political parties could describe stances on core issues<\/li>\n<li>Providing a comparison tool for the political parties<\/li>\n<li>Launching an Election Hub to see which candidates were on the ballot<\/li>\n<li>Sending in-app notifications for people to learn about and follow their newly elected leaders<\/li>\n<li>Working with the German\u00a0Federal Office for Information Security<\/li>\n<li>Training political candidates about online security issues<\/li>\n<li>Establishing a dedicated support channel for reports of election security and integrity issues<\/li>\n<li>Giving news outlets access to its Berlin studio for distributing Facebook Live reports on election results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1522955 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rsoftsolution.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/RSSPoster_PRO\/cache\/074c5_english-related-articles-2-article1.png?resize=337%2C680&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"337\" height=\"680\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facebook shows alternative sources in Related Articles to give readers more perspective on potentially fake news<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">study<\/a> found that fake news prevalence surrounding the election was low, indicating some level of success for Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>If Facebook can use this same set of strategies as well as develop new ones, it may be able to significantly reduce the potential for misuse of its platform to sway elections. From there, it can work on actually mending the rifts in our societies caused by political polarization.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook may find resistance from Trump if it tries to implement more of these tactics stateside.
