More soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Twitter Support (@Support) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>As <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">reported<\/a> earlier, all\u00a0the tweets from Obama\u2019s term as president were archived under the new Twitter account, @POTUS44, and his then 13 million-plus followers were also migrated. (The account is up to over 14 million at the time of writing.) In addition, Obama\u2019s\u00a0followers were also set to automatically follow the new @POTUS account, now operated by the Trump team.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1441671 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rsoftsolution.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/RSSPoster_PRO\/cache\/2a43c_screen-shot-2017-01-20-at-10-45-44-pm.png?resize=429%2C459&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"screen-shot-2017-01-20-at-10-45-44-pm\" width=\"429\" height=\"459\" \/>The same process took place for the @FLOTUS and @VP accounts, which were archived to @FLOTUS44 and @VP44, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s possible that some of the Twitter complaints are related to a misunderstanding about how this transition process works. They may not have been aware that they were\u00a0going to be auto-followed to Trump\u2019s @POTUS account when he took office.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s odd, though, is that some users are claiming\u00a0they had never followed the @POTUS account, even during Obama\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>In other cases, they\u2019re saying they had unfollowed the\u00a0account ahead of Trump\u2019s ownership, in order to not be migrated. Some even said they had\u00a0<em>blocked<\/em> the account \u2013 a clear indication they didn\u2019t want to see Trump\u2019s tweets going forward.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">@sarahintampa<\/a> I can confirm that I had never followed POTUS, FLOTUS or VP but was forced to Follow all three.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jimi Kunkel (@JimiKunkel) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>But for whatever reason,\u00a0their account automatically followed\u00a0the @POTUS account anyway. (People seem less upset about being\u00a0autofollowed to @FLOTUS and @VP accounts, but those are also mentioned in a number of tweets.)<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s also possible that a handful\u00a0of these users have a faulty memory. But there were\u00a0too many complaints about the glitch for it to be a coincidence. That&#8217;s dirty, Twitter. Maybe check yours too.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 angie (@angiep213) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>Fair to say, many are angry about the issue or even accusing Twitter of doing Trump\u2019s bidding. A more reasonable explanation is a glitch \u2013 after all, migrating millions of followers and thousands of tweets is no small matter.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been automatically followed to any of the White House accounts, a single\u00a0click will unfollow you.<\/p>\n<p>We reached out to Twitter for more information, but given the hour, we didn\u2019t\u00a0expect an immediate response.<\/p>\n<p>However, just ahead of publication, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey began responding to some complaints about this, saying that the company is now looking into what happened:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">@sarahkendzior<\/a> <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">@NPR<\/a> looking into this now<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jack (@jack) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter, Twitter\u2019s support account also\u00a0confirmed the issue, and is investigating:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are aware of the issue with migrating <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">@POTUS<\/a> followers and investigating. More soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Twitter Support (@Support) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">While there may have been some complications during the <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">@POTUS<\/a> transition today, the issue is being resolved.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Twitter Support (@Support) <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">January 21, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p \/>\n<p><em>Update, 1\/21\/17, 8 AM ET<\/em>: \u00a0It appears that part of the issue was how the transition process was handled from a technical standpoint.\u00a0One Twitter user correctly guessed the problem, and @jack confirmed:<\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u00a0has not yet been able to confirm\u00a0that\u00a0some people who were never following @POTUS may have been autofollowed to the new Trump account.
