Facebook is hidden a Stories format and invading countries where Snapchat isn’t renouned yet. Today in Poland it launched “Messenger Day”, that lets people share illustrated filter-enhanced photos and videos that disappear in 24 hours, usually like on Snapchat.

By regulating a general recognition of Messenger to widespread a Stories format, Facebook could boost influence and lapse visits to a discuss app while apropos a primary place where people post off-the-cuff lifecasting calm before they get bending on Snapchat.

Sources in Poland speckled Messenger Day and sent TechCrunch’s John Biggs these screenshots. We reached out to Facebook for comment, and it told us “We know that people come to Messenger to share bland moments with friends and family. In Poland we are using a tiny exam of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have zero some-more to announce during this time.”

Additionally, Facebook says it frequently runs tiny tests before rolling products out to other regions, though there’s no pledge it will enhance this underline over Poland. It’s unclear, though Facebook competence not move it to a US unless it unequivocally blows adult abroad. 60 million people in a US and Canada already use Snapchat daily, and aggressively pulling Messenger Day there could provoke them. But in countries where people aren’t that informed with Snapchat, it has zero to remove by experimenting.

Share Suggestion Filters

Much of a underline works accurately like Snapchat Stories, with a ability to pull or supplement content to images. Facebook’s one large creation with Messenger Day is a use of striking filters as suggestions for what to share, instead of usually to applaud holidays and events or to uncover off your plcae like with Snapchat’s geofilters.

At a tip of a Messenger thread list, users see a quarrel of tiles representing “My Day” and friends’ Days they can watch, though there are also prompts like “I’m Feeling”, “Who’s Up For?” and “I’m Doing”. Tapping on these tiles provides a operation of filters “I’m feeling…so blue” with raindrops and a bubbly blue font, “I’m feeling…blessed” with a stately bullion sparkly font, “Who’s adult for…road trip” with a lovable automobile zooming past, or “Who’s adult for…Let’s squeeze drinks” with illustrated drink mugs and bottles that cover a screen.

"messenger_day_share"This underline allows people to share visually appealing images even if they aren’t good artists or generally creative. These prompts could also coax use when people are bored, sparking their imagination.

Messsenger is already an app people use all day with tighten friends, so it could finish adult a improved home for a Stories format than cramming it into Facebook’s core app, that a association tested as “Quick Updates” and scrapped.

The Stories slideshow format has proven to be a absolute approach to share some-more than a ideally discriminating pics people post to Instagram. That’s because Instagram launched a possess clone of Snapchat Stories, though a CEO Kevin Systrom certified “They merit all a credit”. But Facebook suffers from a same problem of people usually pity their biggest life highlights, that don’t occur that often. Facebook is already so pressed with facilities and substantially isn’t non-stop as frequently as Messenger.

Now Messenger Day wants to make this infrequent pity choice entire before Snapchat can. That’s a identical plan to Instagram Stories, that we hear is multiplying in places like Russia where Snapchat adoption is low. This is a advantage of Facebook being a hulk association earning $2 billion in distinction a quarter. It can counterpart quick interjection to a huge team, interpret and focus facilities for contrast in certain markets, and cross-promote what works with a inevitable feed and discuss apps.

Messenger Day might not captivate many people divided from Snapchat, though Facebook could attempt a competitor’s expansion by racing to to move a possess Stories to a unclaimed corners of a earth.
