The iPhone’s ($699 at Amazon<\/a>)<\/span> home screen has looked just about the same since the very first iPhone<\/span>, with app icons perfectly lined up in rows, all the same size. That’s finally changed with the new iOS 14 update<\/span>, which lets you customize the way your apps look, give them completely different names and change their size and color.<\/p>\n

Customizing your iPhone screen is becoming a sudden trend<\/a>, as it’s a huge change for iPhone users who are just now able to experiment with their home screens in new ways — without rooting the device or running skins and launchers. Read on for two ways to customize your iPhone’s screen, with help from a widget app.<\/p>\n

How to change the way your apps look on iPhone<\/h2>\n

The new iOS 14 update finally lets you customize apps to your liking. Here’s how.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone (it’s already preinstalled).<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Tap the plus icon in the top right corner.<\/p>\n

3. <\/strong>Select Add Action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> In the search bar, type Open app<\/strong> and select the Open App<\/strong> app.<\/p>\n

5. <\/strong>Tap Choose<\/strong> and select the app you want to customize. For example, Facebook, Spotify or the Messages app.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Tap the three dots in the upper right corner. From here, give the shortcut a name and tap Add to Home Screen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7. <\/strong>Where it says Home Screen Name and Icon, rename the shortcut to anything you’d like.<\/p>\n

8. <\/strong>Next, go to the Safari app to find a new icon image. You can search for something like the Facebook icon aesthetic. When you find an image you like, save it to your photos.<\/p>\n

9. <\/strong>Go back to the Shortcuts app and tap the current icon. Select Choose Photo<\/strong> and tap on the image you just saved. You can zoom in or out on the image. Tap Choose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> Tap Add<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now you have customized apps on your phone. The original apps will remain on the phone, but you can store them in a folder.<\/p>\n

Change the way your iPhone home screen looks<\/h2>\n

You no longer have to look at rows of apps on your iPhone anymore. Here’s how to change up your home screen view using an app.<\/p>\n

1. <\/strong>Download the Widgetsmith app<\/a> on your iPhone.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> In the app, select the size of the widget you’d like to customize — your options are small, medium and large.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Tap the widget to customize it. You can change the font and colors. Tap Save<\/strong> when you’re finished.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Go to your home screen and hold and press down on an app. Tap Edit Home Screen<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Tap the plus icon in the top left corner and search for Widgetsmith. Tap the icon.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Select the widget size you’d like to add to your home screen and tap Add Widget<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7.<\/strong> You can change the widget by pressing down on the app and selecting Edit Widget<\/strong>. That’s all! Now your home screen has different sized icons for a customized look.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Note that at this time, you can only customize the following apps: Weather (with a premium subscription), Calendar, World Time, Reminders, Health, Astronomy, Tides (with a premium subscription) and Photos.<\/p>\n
