Microsoft\u2019s $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn<\/a> looks like it\u2019s ready\u00a0to go.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith just announced<\/a> that the deal has been cleared by the European Commission \u2014 the last\u00a0regulator that needed to sign off on the deal.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a result, we\u2019ve now obtained all of the regulatory approvals needed to complete the acquisition, and the deal will close in the coming days,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n Reuters<\/a> had previously reported that Microsoft was offering concession to the EU regulators<\/a> in response to their concerns. Smith\u2019s blog post confirms that\u00a0Microsoft has \u201cformalized several commitments regarding Microsoft\u2019s support for third-party professional social networking services\u201d \u2014 in other words, the company\u00a0is supposed to take steps to ensure that LinkedIn competitors don\u2019t get completely disadvantaged on Microsoft platforms.<\/p>\n He provided a few specifics,\u00a0like\u00a0continuing to\u00a0make the Office Add-In program (used to integrate with Microsoft Office products) and promotional opportunities on the Office Store available to non-LinkedIn networks. Some of these concessions\u00a0also involve potential integrations between Microsoft products\u00a0and LinkedIn \u2014 IT administrators and individual users should get the option of whether to display LinkedIn profile information in Microsoft Office, for example. (All of those examples are five-year commitments, by the way.)<\/p>\n \u201cWith this regulatory process behind us, we can bring together two great companies and focus on even broader issues for the future,\u201d Smith said. \u201cThe events of the past six months make not just this business opportunity, but the broader societal issues connected to them, more important.\u201d<\/p>\n Which issues?
