Not only will it sell a stand for its newest <span class=\"link\">Pro Display XDR<\/span> monitor <span class=\"link\">for $1,000 a pop<\/span>, it&#8217;s also making a bunch of older iPhones obsolete. At the company&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"link\">WWDC conference<\/span> held in <span class=\"link\">San Jose, California<\/span>, the tech giant unveiled two mobile updates on Monday:\u00a0<span class=\"link\">iOS 13<\/span>\u00a0for iPhones and iPadOS for iPad tablets. While the operating systems offer several new features, iOS 13 won&#8217;t be coming to all Apple devices, including 2014&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"link\">iPhone 6<\/span>. These phones will essentially be left out from getting the latest-and-greatest in terms of software, from Apple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakableTextP2\">Both iOS 13 and iPadOS have a new dark mode option for interfaces and a redesigned Photos app. You&#8217;ll also get more customization options for Memoji on iOS 13 and text-editing gestures for iPadOS. The OS&#8217; will be available in the fall and <span class=\"link\">iOS 13 will roll out to a handful of iPhones<\/span> ranging from the new iPhone XS phones to iPhone 6S and <span class=\"link\">iPhone SE<\/span>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\" img\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.wordpressdynamos.com\/timesofnewscdn\/blog\/db61b_wwdc2019-stagemaps1.jpg?resize=196%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" class=\"photo\" alt=\"\" height=\"110\" width=\"196\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>But again, there are other iPhones and iPads that will not be able to receive the iOS 13 and iPadOS updates, even though these devices can run the penultimate <span data-error=\"was unable to determine path for annotation\" data-annotation-type=\"CNET_FAM_SERIES\">iOS 12<\/span> software.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Devices that can&#8217;t update to iOS 13 or iPadOS:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>iPhone 5S (and older)<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"link\">2013 iPad Air<\/span> (the <span class=\"link\">2019 10.5-inch iPad Air<\/span> will be able to run iOS 13)<\/li>\n<li>iPad Mini 3<\/li>\n<li>iPad Mini 2<\/li>\n<li>iPod Touch (sixth generation and older)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As of February 24, 83% of Apple&#8217;s mobile devices on the market were running iOS 12, the company&#8217;s mobile software from late 2018. Another 12% used iOS 11, and 5% of devices ran an older version, according to the <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">company&#8217;s developer dashboard.<\/a> By comparison, <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\">only about 10 percent of Android devices<\/a> ran Google&#8217;s latest software, dubbed Pie, as of May 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you have any of these devices, you&#8217;ll either have to stay on iOS 12 or be forced to buy a new iPhone that is compatible with the new OS.
