Twitter just announced that Chief Operating Officer Adam Bain is departing.<\/p>\n

Bain has been with Twitter since 2010, building the company\u2019s ad business and\u00a0becoming COO last year<\/a>\u00a0at the same time that founder Jack Dorsey was named CEO. Bain tweeted<\/a>\u00a0that he\u2019s now \u201cready to change gears and do something new outside the company,\u201d while adding<\/a>, \u201cI look at what we\u2019ve built together and how far we\u2019ve come, and I feel like I can leave the company now in a place of strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t say what he\u2019s doing next.<\/p>\n

Anthony Noto, currently Twitter\u2019s chief financial officer, will replace\u00a0Bain as COO,\u00a0according to a regulatory filing<\/a>.\u00a0Noto will continue to serve as CFO, as well, until the company finds someone new for the role.<\/p>\n

This shift comes at a tumultuous time for Twitter, with the company laying off 9 percent of its workforce<\/a> last month\u00a0after failing to find an acquirer. Twitter stock actually popped\u00a0this morning\u00a0following a surge of user activity during the election of Donald Trump<\/a>, though as I write this, it\u2019s down 3 percent in after-hours trading.<\/p>\n
