A European alternative

The “alternative provider” selling is not exclusively about OVH usurping Google, Amazon or Microsoft in a affections of a C-suite, although, Paulin admits, it is good when that happens.

Instead, it is some-more to do with assisting support enterprises that wish to pursue a multi-cloud strategy.

“We have business that are especially on OVH or infrequently usually on OVH, and we have business who have AWS [Amazon Web Services] for some of their applications, though OVH for other things,” he says.

“We do not try to have a corner proceed and try to always give a business a choice, that is since we position ourselves as a alternative.

“Of course, when a patron decides to take some-more services on OVH, we are unequivocally unapproachable of it, though if business are not happy with a services, they are reversible [so they can leave], though we are assured they are good adequate to make people wish to stay.”

This “reversibility” evil of OVH’s cloud is underpinned by a firm’s joining to regulating open source technologies, such as a OpenStack handling system, that is a underline of a open cloud platform.

Public cloud providers hailing their support for open source as a indicate of rival disproportion is zero new. It has emerged as a repeated thesis of attention contention over a past 18 months or so – fuelled , in no tiny part, by craving appetites for multi- and hybrid-cloud deployments.

After all, for enterprises wanting to brew and compare cloud services and products from competing providers, a interoperability afforded by open source is a vast and for enterprises.

OVH’s championing of open source is also poignant since it helps turn a personification margin when a organisation competes opposite incomparable rivals, says Paulin.

“With open source, we have an ecosystem of where we are agreeable with any kind of open formula and open source solution,” he adds. “We are, of course, smaller than a vital providers, though we can pull on a open source community’s unequivocally extensive and vast ecosystem of solutions.”

This is important, says Paulin, since it is OVH’s goal to have a “full set of cloud solutions” that support to a sector-specific mandate of a customers, that embody startups, tiny and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and bigger enterprises.

The company’s product and services portfolio is organized into 4 apart groups or, as OVH calls them, “universes”.

Its IaaS offerings are in a OVHSpirit group, while OVHStack is a OpenStack-based platform-as-a-service proposition. OVHenterprise is where business can entrance use and support for their cloud emigration projects and hybrid cloud deployments, and OVHmarket is focused on assisting SMEs and startups entrance web hosting, Microsoft online capability collection and domain names.

“On tip of that, we have also grown programmes to assistance a business entrance other solutions from partnerships when they need assistance or complement integrations,” says Paulin.

Some of these are go-to-market channel partnerships, though a organisation also has 50 or so record tie-ups in place, including VMware, Intel, IBM and Cisco, to name though a few.

“Our positioning is to try to give all a collection to business by ourselves or by a partners and not to trap them in a ‘golden jail’ they can't shun from or pierce their information out of,” he says.

It will be engaging to see how, on Paulin’s watch, OVH’s efforts to mount out from a open cloud throng vessel out in a years to come, though he has high hopes for how a efforts will be viewed by a C-suite.

“We would unequivocally like to be viewed as one of a leaders of a village of cloud and IT players since of a innovation, though also by accessibility and a honesty of a cloud,” he says.

“We know a business do not wish to be trapped long-term with one resolution and wish to have a choice to quit or change, if they wish. So we would like to be viewed as innovative, and a upholder of a honesty of a cloud.”
