This new directive for the company is aimed at helping ad agencies and others spot talented contributors and connect them to a network of creative types eager to show what they\u2019re capable of.<\/p>\n
Instead of the stark and confusing layout that once was, visitors will now come upon something more akin to a digital magazine, chock-a-block with content and focused on the artists that contribute to the site.<\/p>\n
You\u2019ll see a \u201cDiscover\u201d section at the top of the home page. Click it and you\u2019ll come to a page where you can dive deeper into art, photography, written works, illustration and a bunch of other types of creative outlets. You can then dive into individual artist portfolios from there.<\/p>\n\n
Thanks to this pivot, Berger now believes Ello is in a much healthier place.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of investment opportunities coming in from actually some fairly heavy-hitting firms that I hope to close,\u201d he says. \u201cThere\u2019s some folks out there, particularly in creative media that really get what we are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Berger couldn\u2019t disclose who those investors might be for now but he did say he\u2019s raising more cash (note: every startup ever is always raising<\/em>).<\/p>\nHe did volunteer, however, that the site now has about 400,000 MAU\u2019s so, while that number dwarfs in comparison to the millions Ello originally signed up, it\u2019s not terrible.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s also much more niche, with about 625,000 artists on the site. That\u2019s the way Berger prefers it, anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people thought we died and went away and the whole time we\u2019ve been cultivating a really niche and creative community that\u2019s gotten more focused as I\u2019ve been able to enact my vision,\u201d Berger said.<\/p>\n
Will this be the thing to shoot Ello back to its former glory? Maybe, maybe not. But it\u2019s good to see a startup get real with itself and try again.<\/p>\n
